Beware of your sedentary life style

Six software professionals under the age of 33 have died and 2 top executives from renowned software companies have become paralyzed because of stress-related heart ailments in the last six months in Chennai, says a study by Mitran Foundation, a Bangalore based voluntary association of practicing doctors. "All the six who died, and the two who became invalid, had no family history of heart attacks or any pre-history of heart ailments or paralysis. They were all in their prime, between 27 and 33 years, and handled challenging projects at work in their respective companies. They worked long and continuous hours. The end struck them very suddenly, and it looked as if their hearts refused to take any more stress," said Dr Dwarakanath, director of Mitran Foundation, who has studied stress components in 40 software companies in Chennai during the last six months. The study, conducted at a cost of Rs 45 lakhs, covered more than 4,000 software professionals from 80 companies who wer

Mission/Ambition/Dream

Hold your fire, Keep it burning bright Hold the flame until the dream ignites A spirit with a vision is a dream With a mission I hear their passionate music Read the words that touch my heart I gaze at their feverish pictures The secrets that set them apart When I feel the powerful visions Their fire has made alive I wish I had that instinct I wish I had that drive Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire Focused high on soaring ambitions Consumed in a single desire In the grip of a nameless possession A slave to the drive of obsession A spirit with a vision is a dream With a mission. I watch their images flicker Bringing light to a lifeless screen I walk through their beautiful buildings And I wish I had their dreams But dreams don't need to have motion To keep their spark alive Obsession has to have action Pride turns on the drive It's cold comfort To the ones without it To know how they struggled How they suffered about it If their lives were exotic and stra

Top 50 interview questions

1. Tell me about yourself: The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present. 2. Why did you leave your last job? Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons. 3. What experience do you have in this field? Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can. 4. Do you consider y

Scoliosis - Explained

Scoliosis "This is a lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine, associated with rotation, so that, in the thoracic spine, the ribs on the convex side are displaced backwards. It is very common, with 25% of the population having some degree of spinal asymmetry in childhood. Curves of over 20° occur in 1-2 per thousand boys and 4-5 per thousand girls. 65% of all cases are idiopathic (cause not known). Most scoliosis occurs in girls at the start of adolescence. When curvature occurs at, or shortly after, birth (infantile curves), boys are often slightly more affected than girls. Interestingly, adolescent curve tends to be more convex to the right whereas infantile ones are to the left. In babies, early diagnosis and treatment is particularly important. Scoliosis may also develop as a result of congenital malformations of the spine, such as hemi-vertebra or fused vertebrae, or in association with spina bifida, polio, ataxia and brittle bones." Fired for Blogging?

By Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder .com It was Merriam-Webster Online's No. 1 word of 2004, and Fortune magazine named it the No. 1 tech trend for 2005. Two surveys by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in November 2004 found that 8 million people say they have created one and almost one-third of Internet users say they read one. But it's still a mystery: Six-of-ten Internet users say they don't know what " blog " means. A blog , according to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, is " a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments and often hyperlinks provided by the writer. " Bloggers write about their lives to keep friends and family up-to-date, talk about their industry, discuss hobbies, or rant about their favorite reality TV show. But posting pictures of you at work, disclosing confidential information about your employer, or bad-mouthing your co-workers could get you in hot water for committing inappro

State of Fear - Review

Before I go into the review or rather my view of the book, " State of Fear ", I must say that I'm an ardent fan of Michael Crichton and I have read all his books (except his non-fictions) I have read the book, " State of Fear ", by Michael Crichton . It definitely lacked the punch that most of his earlier books had. He is the best in the field of research and write authors. But I guess, this time he did an excessive research, although, of a kind, that is prejudiced from the beginning. And the plot and characters, never jelled with me. I couldn't relate with any of the characters, because they lacked life. If you had read, Sphere or Prey , you would know, what I mean. And the technical explanations he gives us about global warming, suggests that Global Warming is not even an issue and that, it is almost a natural phenomenon. Whatever abnormal weather we experience, like high or low temperature are region based and also based upon the population density. By h
